Edwards (clip from debate shown on a television set): "I have been fighting 'em my entire life in courtrooms..."

[Music] Barber 1: You know there's a lot of talk about fighting out there.

Barber 2: Yeah, but we need a president who's about results.

Both: Why not Dodd?

Barber (voiceover): It's Dodd who authored the Family and Medical Leave Act--had to bring Democrats and Republicans together.

Barber (voiceover): And he's leading to expand Pell grants and make college more affordable for the middle class.

Dodd: I'm Chris Dodd and I approved this message because it's not just about fighting, it's about getting results.

Male Announcer: Chris Dodd.  Results for a change.

Notes: Another ad featuring John and Jesse, the two fictional barbers from Jim's barbershop in Winterset, Iowa.

Observations:  This ad opens with a clever attack on Edwards (it doesn't mention him by name and there is the use of the television set as a distancing device, rather than just plastering his photo on the screen), just as "View from the Shop," released on the same day, opens with a clever attack on Clinton.  The other frontrunner, Obama, apparently didn't make the cut.

If Dodd wins the Democratic nomination, the duo of John and Jesse could become as famous as Frank and Ed, the actors who pitched Bartles & Jaymes Wine Coolers from 1985-91.
