[Music]John Edwards: Will we make America the country of the 21st Century?  That depends on all of us.

Itís not that we donít know what needs to be done.  To lift families out of poverty.  To strengthen the middle class in this country.  We know what needs to be done. 

The strength in America is not just in the Oval office.  The strength in America is in this room, right now.  Itís the American people.

And itís time for the President of the United States to ask Americans to be patriotic about something other than war.

Notes:  This is an introductory ad which presents an inspirational call to action.  "Strength of America" opens with a brief aerial clip of small town America, there are shots of Edwards speaking and of a large crowd, and Elizabeth Edwards appears a couple of times.  On the audio track, Edwards' words are bolstered by trumpet flourishes and applause and crowd noise.  Text on the screen reads "a time for change," "a time to care," "a time to act," and "America your time is now."

In a conference call, campaign officials Jonathan Prince and Joe Trippi noted that the campaign had originally planned to go on air in New Hampshire after July 4.  However, they said with the close of the 2nd Quarter fundraising period fast approaching the campaign was "running ahead of our budget plan," so they decided to go up early.  According to the press release, the ad:

"...highlights Edwardsí belief that the strength of our country lies in the American people and that by taking action we can strengthen the middle class, lift families out of poverty and transform America.  The ad also highlights the campaignís intensified commitment to engage New Hampshire voters.  The campaign made the decision to go up on the air in New Hampshire after determining that it was on track to raise the $40 million needed to implement the campaign plan."
