Bill Earl's Nov. 4, 2004 letter to United Democrats, a local Democratic club in El Monte, CA, endorsing Sen. Evan Bayh:

Hello fellow Democrats and members. First, I want to thank President Ron for letting this "new kid on the block" write this for our newsletter. Second, like many of you, I am in mourning.

I am scared to see Supreme Court vacancies over the next four years to be filled with Scalia/Thomas clones. Even more frightening are the rumors that Cheney/Bush Jr. will appoint Clarence Thomas as our next Chief Justice. And of course, Roe Vs. Wade being a thing of the past.

But we still have a ray of hope. We have some fresh, attractive Democratic officeholders that would make an attractive and WINNING ticket for us in 2008. We need to start right now to take back our country from the Religious Right in 2008. We need to encourage Democrats that can take back our White House in 2008 to visit Iowa and New Hampshire and the much neccessary groundwork. And now is not too early. Jimmy Carter proved that to be true when he started his winning 1976 campaign in 1972.

I see two Democrats who can make an attractive ticket in 2008. Some of you might not agree with me. Some might prefer more liberal candidates, and I totally understand that as I too am proudly from the "McGovern/Howard Dean Wing" of our party. I haven't sold out and I never will. But I want to win. And I think I know who can give us our White House back.

I am proposing a 2008 Democratic ticket of BAYH/LANDRIEU.

U.S. Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) is a proven winner, and former two term Governor, in a heavy Republican state. He knows how to attract Republicans and Middle America. Evan Bayh knows how to win. Evan Bayh is likeable, a family man, charming, scandal-free, and my wife, Rosemary, says is ultra-handsome in a Steve Garvey-esque boyish "aw shucks" way.

A very attractive running mate for Senator Bayh would be U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), a Southerner, a Catholic, and a likeable attractive national leader.

A BAYH/LANDRIEU ticket is my suggestion for taking back our White House in 2008.

I hope Senator Bayh and Senator Landrieu are encouraged to explore their chances for 2008.

Our party has other strong leaders such as U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and former Vice-President Al Gore. But, let's face it. They are controversial, and for all who like them, as I do, we know there are just as many who do not, and sadly in Senator Clinton's case, never will, as reported in today's (11-4-04) Los Angeles Times. In my heart I want Hillary. But my head says Evan Bayh.

I truly feel there is a ray of hope, and sunshine of freshness with Evan Bayh. I truly believe that he is the man for the hour, and I only hope Senator Bayh connects with Iowa and New hampshire, as I think he will, and becomes our party's standard bearer in 2008. And if Senator Bayh is our nominee, I hope he chooses Senator Landrieu to run with.

Again, I want to win in 2008. I think Evan Bayh can save our party, and, in turn, save our country.

I hereby heartily endorse Senator Evan Bayh for President in 2008.

Senator Bayh is attractive to Republicans and to us. I don't see any other Democrat out there that can have the cross-party appeal of Senator Bayh. He proved that with his landslide reelection in Indiana last Tuesday. I hope BAYH/LANDRIEU can be our winning ticket for 2008.

But I welcome opposing views from fellow Democrats, or the names of other candidate possibilities that I might not know of as well.

Again, I want to win. I think we have the candidate in Evan Bayh that will win for US and our United States.

Thanks for reading this!
