Agape Choir and Choral Earth

Location: Big Tent:Upstairs

Time: 8:00 AM - 8:45 AM (MST)

A cappella performance by the Agape Choir from Culver City, CA and Choral Earth from Charlottesville, VA. The Agape Choir began with a 30-voice holiday season presentation in December of 1988. With the combined writing and composing talents of music director, Rickie Byars, and founding minister, Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith, the choir, early on, began performing original Beckwith/Byars compositions. As the choir has developed and grown in membership, so has the complexity of Rickie Byars's vocal and instrumental arrangements. Over the past six and one-half years, Agape Choir music has become known for its signature sectional harmonies, counterpoint, tempo-patterns, devotional power, and energetic enthusiasm. Choral Earth's Founder, Rachel Bagby, has inspired everyday folks and professional musicians to tap into the healing power of choral music and vocal communities.

A deepening awareness about torture, poverty, global HIV/AIDS, the environment and peace stands alongside more traditionally conservative values like abortion and gay marriage. Both Presidential campaigns are consciously trying to build momentum with faith voters. This panel assesses how the changing values debate among religious voters will have an impact on the general electorate, the campaigns, and the media. It also explores how those who support this expanded debate are getting the message out broadly between now and the election.

The national organization amplifying the political vote of Black Americans, will present a panel discussion that will focus on the political environment surrounding two keys issues addressed by ColorOfChange.org's agenda. The failure to implement an effective recovery program in the Gulf Coast after Katrina, and the lack of progress in providing a remedy for the epidemic of voter suppression haunting our elections. Three years after Katrina, why aren't federal politicians aggressively moving the Gulf Coast Civic Works Act, a comprehensive recovery and rebuilding plan that is backed by Gulf Coast groups and prominent members of the Louisiana Democratic and Republican parties? Why has Congress, with a Democratic majority, failed to meaningfully address voter suppression and election integrity? Both these failures affect all Americans, but they are both rooted partly in the Democratic Party's relationship with Black Americans in particular. A panel of experts will discuss innovative solutions to these problems, and deconstruct the politics that have blocked the execution of those solutions

A narrow minority with extreme political views are threatening access to reproductive  health care.  Doctors, nurses, and health care advocates are uniting to keep politics out of the exam room. A family’s right to make important life-decisions is under siege– everything from birth control to treatment for infertility to life-saving medical research is at risk. National experts will explain what’s at stake, expose extremists, and provide real-world medical examples of how national (like the proposed HHS regulation)
and state proposals (like CO’s Amendment 48) are threatening the privacy of the doctor-patient relationship.

Speakers: Jim Garrison, Paul Ray
This workshop will discuss the climate crisis and the challenge involved in a major mobilization of the public: a new national values research study shows a dramatic transformation of American range in concerns about climate change from only a few years ago. When the issues are framed in values terms, the desire for positive action and change on the part of the American public is enormous, in the 60-90%
range. While they are emotionally and cognitively eager, however, most Americans have little idea what to do and so they want leadership and decisive action.

 "Cracks in the Glass Ceiling"
