Residents and
visitors to Denver may see members of the Air and Army National Guard
in and around the Denver metro area August 25-28, 2008, providing
support under the direction of local officials if needed.
The Guard serves in a support role to provide immediate assistance to
civilian authorities as necessary, such as medical teams, logistics and
other resources. Through the National Guard's unique joint,
interstate partnership, Guard members from Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah,
Georgia, Ohio, Arizona and Virginia will be assisting the Colorado
National Guard in this effort. The Colorado National Guard is
dedicated to fostering the democratic process and keeping Denver a
safe, enjoyable and welcoming environment. The purpose of the
Colorado National Guard is to support the lead local, state and federal
agencies as needed.
The National Guard stands ready and trained to respond when called upon
to provide additional support.
Since Sept. 11, 2001, the Colorado National Guard has operated a Joint
Operation Center to command and control the more than 5,000 Soldiers
and Airmen who train year round and are ready to respond to any
emergency should the need arise.
