DNC Technical Advisory Committee visits Denver and tours the proposed facilities for the 2008 convention.

On Tuesday night, June 20, the first stop for the group was Coors Field for the Colorado Rockies vs. Oakland Athletics game.  They stayed at the new Hyatt Regency at the Convention Center Hotel.

The next day the group attended meetings and had some free time to explore the city.  On Wednesday night, the group was delivered by helicopter to Red Rocks Amphitheater for a welcoming reception.  They were then transported to historic Fort Restaurant for dinner.

On Thursday, the group broke up into several groups and met  in order to discuss security, transportation, and logistical requirements.  The committee then toured the Pepsi Center.  Lunch was with Mayor Hickenlooper at Tamayo restaurant in historic Larimer Square.  The evening event began with a tour of the new art museum expansion designed by world renowned architect Daniel Libeskind.  A dinner with Denver’s VIP’s followed on the 7th floor of the Michael Graves’ designed Denver Public Library.

Friday the group had breakfast at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, site of the 1908 Democratic National Convention, the only Convention ever to be held in Denver. The Opera House has just reopened after an extensive interior renovation.  The site selection committee left by noon on Friday.
