Dear Governor Dean:

Thank you very much for your November 10, 2005 letter extending an invitation to consider hosting the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

After reviewing the DNC's Summary of Preliminary Requirements and Site Selection Timetable, the City of Minneapolis is interested, at this time, in receiving a formal Request For Proposal from the DNC.  However, summer 2008 is a short-term date for an event this large.  Once we know the proposed dates, we can analyze availability and the impact the convention would have on our existing business.  The City, in conjunction with the Greater Minneapolis Convention & Visitors Association, will conduct due diligence in order to determine if Minneapolis will be submitting a formal proposal by this May.

As you may be aware, Minneapolis submitted a bid to host the 2000 Democratic National Convention, which ultimately was held in Los Angeles.  We certainly understand the economic benefit Minneapolis would realize, along with the international exposure hosting the 2008 Democratic National  Convention would generate.  We look forward to receiving the RFP.

Governor Dean, again, thank you for providing this information and I will be responding on or prior to May 1, 2006.

Warmest regards,

The Honorable R.T. Rybak
Mayor of Minneapolis
