Mr. Ken Mehlman
Chairman
Republican National Committee
310 First Street, S.E.
Washington, D.C.  20003

Dear Chairman Mehlman:

New York City enthusiastically supports hosting the 2008 Republican National Convention.  As evidenced by our Bid Proposal, New York City is prepared and committed to producing an extraordinary event for the Republican Party.

New York is the ideal host for the 2008 Convention because we know how to get the job done.  Two of the last eight presidential conventions have been held in the Big Apple, including, as you well know, the 2004 Republican National Convention.  My administration learned a great deal from hosting the Republican National Convention at Madison Square Garden, and we will utilize that experience to plan, organize, and execute an even more successful Convention in 2008.  Because of our proven track record, I can guarantee that the 2008 Convention will be coordinated with the utmost precision and attention to detail.

In addition, New York City offers resources that are unmatched by any city in the nation.  When it comes to security, I am proud to say that New York is the safest big city in America, and it possesses the experience and resources to provide the most secure and well-protected convention site in the nation.  For delegates, getting to New York will be a simple journey, as we can offer the choice of three local airports, all of which provide service from most domestic carriers.  In addition, our extensive local transportation system is user-friendly and extremely efficient, and will certainly meet all the local travel needs of your delegates.  Lastly, from the smallest dance companies and theaters to our largest museums, New York City's cultural institutions and attractions will be ready to welcome Republican delegates from across America.  With world-class dining, cultural attractions, theatres and shopping -- New York City has it all.

The importance of a strong, unified group is essential to bring to fruition our vision for the 2008 Republican National Convention.  New York City has the ability to assemble a powerful coalition of business leaders, government entities and cultural organizations that are committed to making the 2008 Convention a grand success.

Just as it did during the 2004 Convention, New York City will generate great energy and excitement for the Republican nominee heading into the crucial final weeks before Election Day.  We are committed to fully utilizing New York's unique and unparalleled assets and experience to deliver and unforgettable event for the Republican delegates and their guests.

Sincerely,

Michael R. Bloomberg
Mayor
