Chairman
Democratic National Committee
430 South Capital Street, S.E.
Washington, D.C.  20003

Dear Governor Dean:

New York City enthusiastically supports hosting the 2008 Democratic National Convention.  As evidenced by our Bid Proposal, New York City is prepared and committed to producing an extraordinary event for the Democratic Party.

New York is the ideal host for the 2008 Convention because we know how to get the job done.  Two of the last eight presidential conventions have been held in the Big Apple, and my administration has first-hand experience in planning, organizing, and executing a successful convention.  Because of our proven track record, I can guarantee that the 2008 Convention will be coordinated with the utmost precision and attention to detail.

In addition, New York City offers resources that are unmatched by any city in the nation.  When it comes to security, I am proud to say that New York is the safest big city in America, and it possesses the experience and resources to provide the most secure and well-protected convention site in the nation.  For delegates, getting to New York will be a simple journey, as we can offer the choice of three local airports, all of which provide service from most domestic carriers.  In addition, our extensive local transportation system is user-friendly and extremely efficient, and will certainly meet all the local travel needs of your delegates.  Lastly, from the smallest dance companies and theaters to our largest museums, New York City's cultural institutions and attractions will be ready to welcome Democratic delegates from across America.  With world-class dining, cultural attractions, theatres and shopping -- New York City has it all.

The importance of a strong, unified group is essential to bring to fruition our vision for the 2008 Democratic National Convention.  New York City has the ability to assemble a powerful coalition of labor unions, business leaders and government entities who are committed to making the 2008 Convention a grand success.  In addition, New York is an overwhelming Democratic town.  Over 70% of voters in the five boroughs voted for the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, and I am confident that our entire City will embrace the 2008 Convention.

Just as it did during the 1992 Convention, New York City will generate great energy and excitement for the Democratic nominee heading into the crucial final weeks before Election Day.  We are committed to fully utilizing New York's unique and unparalleled assets and experience to deliver and unforgettable event for the Democratic delegates and their guests.

Sincerely,

Michael R. Bloomberg
Mayor
