RNC CHAIRMAN APPOINTS CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE ON CONTESTS FOR THE 2008 REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Robert M. “Mike” Duncan today appointed Mississippi Republican Party (MRP) Chairman Jim Herring to serve as Chairman of the Committee on Contests for the 2008 Republican National Convention.

“Jim Herring is a valuable member of the RNC who possesses a true understanding of our Party’s fundamental organization and guiding philosophy,” Chairman Duncan said.  “Just as Chairman Herring continues to serve the state of Mississippi proudly as State Party Chairman, I am confident that he will serve the RNC proudly as Chairman of the Committee on Contests for the 2008 Republican National Convention.”

The Committee on Contests is responsible for resolving issues related to states’ delegate selection processes prior to the 2008 Republican National Convention.  As Chairman, Herring will be responsible for establishing a smooth procedure for conducting the Committee’s reviews. The Committee on Contests is comprised of two members of the RNC elected from each of the four sub-regions, in addition to the Chairman of the Committee.

In addition to serving as Chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party, Herring serves as the RNC’s Chairman of the State Chairmen and is a partner at Herring, Long and Crews, P.C.  Herring served as a judge on the Mississippi Court of Appeals and was a Colonel in the Air Force Reserve JAG Corps for 25 years.
