Charleston, WV – The WVGOP Presidential Convention announced today that 1,175 delegate candidates have registered for the State Convention to be held on February 5, 2008.  View the list of delegates by visiting http://www.wvgopconvention.com.  Go to the “Do You Want to be a Delegate?” section.

“The number of delegates that have registered is a tremendous accomplishment for West Virginia Republicans.  We expect that the state convention will be the largest business gathering of Republicans in West Virginia in recent memory,” stated Bob Fish, CEO of the WVGOP Presidential Convention.

“We expect the number of filings to grow over the next 2 - 3 days as additional filings that were postmarked by November 30 are received.  Also, county chairs can now make appointments to fill delegate vacancies in their counties.  We anticipate additional filings as people apply to fill those vacancies, particularly as the national race heats up,” continued Fish.

With these latest filings, 45% of delegates remain uncommitted to a candidate.

“The number of uncommitted delegates is very significant.  We believe the speeches and the activity at the Convention itself could well determine the outcome.” Fish concluded.
