February 1, 2007

Dear Democratic Delegate,

Our party has an historic opportunity to give great courage to the American people.  We can embark on a bold mew journey to reclaim the White House and to reclaim the deep love of the American people.  We can assert our moral authority to restore the social and economic health of our people, to lift up our nation financially and spiritually.  We can rebuild our nation, repair the global climate and reconcile with the nations of the world in the cause of prosperity and peace.

The American people have already shown us the way. In the 2006 election they gave us a powerful mandate for peace in Iraq.  The American people want us to lead the way towards people by ending the war and stopping the loss of lives of our troops and innocent civilians.

In response to that call, I have consulted with diplomats, UN officials, leaders of the international community and military experts to craft a twelve point plan for peace and stability.  Democrats can and should lead the way to end the occupation, bring our troops home and stabilize Iraq.  My plan is a positive step towards peace in the region. Congress must assert its constitutional obligation and tell Mr. Bush that it will not continue to fund the war.  Then the nations of the world will be prepared to reengage for peace.

Congress must act because the Bush Administration is planning to shift the debate from its disastrous policies in Iraq by attacking Iran.  Just as I led the way in 2002 to challenge the administration's march towards war, so I am taking the initiative to rally members of Congress and the world community to avert war against Iran.

As President I will lead the way towards peaceful relations with the nations of the world.  I am presently reaching out to the international community of leaders to establish a regional conference to create a new hope for peace throughout the Middle East.  Success in crafting a peace agreement will set the stage for my next goal. As President, I intend to secure the long-term safety of the American people and the world through the abolition of all nuclear weapons.

Democrats must work for peace. As President I will rally the nation to address issues of violence which threaten peace in our homes and our communities. I will send to congress a bill to create a cabinet-level Department of Peace and Nonviolence.

We must reunite our nation.  Unity will enable us to create a new domestic agenda.  The American people want democrats to recognize that healthcare has become unaffordable and inaccessible.  As President I will enact the legislation, which establishes Medicare for All.  The Conyers-Kucinich Bill, HR676, already provides for the creation of such a national healthcare plan which will benefit the American family and American businesses and industry.

The American family needs help, not only with healthcare, but also with childcare.  As President I will create a universal Pre-Kindergarten program which will lift a major financial burden from millions of American families who lack access to affordable childcare. The bill is already written for Congress to enact.

The American people want Democrats to recognize the need to rebuild our cities.  As President I will use my extensive experience in local government to enact a plan to Rebuild America. In the spirit of FDR and the WPA, we will spend money into circulation to rebuild America's infrastructure. I am already gathering support in the congress for this plan.

The American people want Democrats to create new jobs and to stop the loss of good-paying jobs.  As 1 President I will work to restructure NAFTA and the WTO.  I will insist that Democratic principles of workers' rights, human rights and environmental quality are placed at the center of all trade agreements.  We must protect our standard of living, not only in America but also throughout the world, and we must enforce labor laws to end the exploitation of immigrant workers and provide for them a path to legalization.

The American people want Democrats to lead the way in repairing the global climate.  As President I will enroll the nation in a new energy policy.  I will seek to inspire America in a powerful energy and environmental initiative, in the same way that JFK rallied our nation to reach for the stars.

Our politics and our international relations have been damaged by shortsighted reliance upon non-renewable sources of energy.  As President I will lead the way in the transition from oil and coal to clean, renewable energy.  I will create millions of new jobs building wind, solar and other technologies for domestic application.

My forty years of involvement in the civic and political life of my city, state and nation have prepared me well.  I have served as a City Councilman, Clerk of Court, Mayor of Cleveland, State Senator and US Congressman.  As President I will lead our party and our nation in the great cause of peace and social and environmental prosperity.

I invite you wholeheartedly to join in this exciting, transformational endeavor.

Sincerely,

Dennis J. Kucinich
