Governor Romney became the first potential 2008 presidential candidate to sign Americans For Tax Reform's "Taxpayer Protection Pledge" and under his leadership, Massachusetts abolished a retroactive capital gains tax that would have forced nearly 50,000 taxpayers to pay additional taxes.
Lowered Unemployment. Today, the unemployment rate is lower, hundreds of companies have expanded or moved into the state, and nearly 60,000 jobs have been added in the last two years.
Promoted A Culture Of Life. When Governor Romney has been presented with legislation on life issues, he has firmly sided with life.
Championed Traditional Marriage. Governor Romney successfully I pressured the Massachusetts State Legislature to vote on a constitutional i amendment defending traditional marriage. He has also been a staunch supporter of the Federal Marriage Amendment.
Strengthened Education. Under Governor Romney's leadership, Massachusetts' fourth and eighth grade students ranked first in reading and tied for first in mathematics. In 2004, Governor Romney established the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship Program to reward the highest performing high school graduates with a four-year, tuition-free scholarship to state universities or colleges.
