At the Presidential Banquet Vice President Dick Cheney focused on the
economy in the first part of his remarks. "Our economy today is healthy,
and vigorous, and growing faster than that of any other major industrialized
nation," Cheney said. He stated that, "In the last five years,
the Bush tax relief has left $880 billion in the hands of American workers,
investors, small businesses, and families." "Congress needs to make
the Bush tax cuts permanent," Cheney declared. Cheney devoted the
last half of his remarks to the war on terror. He defended "the terrorist
surveillance program." "Either we are serious about fighting this
war or we are not," Cheney said. |
