With the speeches finished it was left to Tony Fabrizio to announce the results of the straw poll. One thousand two hundred and fifty one (1,251) CPAC registrants participated. Twenty two (22) percent thought Sen. George Allen will be the Republican nominee in 2008, 20 percent said Sen. John McCain, 12 percent former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and 10 percent Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. Sixty four percent thought the Democrats will nominate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. The sample was not very representative of the wider public however. Eighty one (81) percent of respondents said they were in the 18-25 range and the gender balance was 58 percent male, 39 percent female and 3 percent no response. |
