Columnist and author George Will suggested a number of themes for conservatives. For example he spoke against "the lawless attack on American success" evidenced by the tobacco settlement and more recently by the campaign against Wal-Mart. Will decried the "politics of condescension," the assumption that the American people are incompetent. On Iraq, Will was not optimistic, saying that that country needed a George Washington, a James Madison, an Alexander Hamilton, and a John Marshall. |
