Conservatives Gather in Washington, DC

After his speech, Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) spoke at an event on "The Impact of Blogs" sponsored by Human Events.  (Human Events named Pence as its man of the year.  To Pence's right is Human Events group publisher Stephen O'Connor).  Pence was the first member of Congress to put a radio studio in his office and the first member to put a blog on his website.  At the event, attended by about 35 people, Pence repeated his analogy comparing Republicans to a ship that is not just adrift, but on "a fixed course and heading for big government."  Responding to questions, Pence said serious consideration should be given to the formation of a new world body to replace the United Nations, which he termed "the United Lilliputians."  On the possibility of a run for president in 2008, Pence alluded to Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) and said, "Probably one Hoosier running for President in 2008 is enough.  Probably."
Brian T. Johnson from Missouri described Pence as "a consistent and outspoken advocate for limited government."  "He has really issued a clarion call for restoration of our first principles," said Johnson.
