February 27, 2009--Sen. John
Cornyn (R-TX), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial
Committee, emphasized the need to reclaim a Republican majority in the
Senate. "Having 41 Republicans means that Harry Reid is only one
vote away on each and every piece of legislation from having a
filibuster-proof majority," Cornyn said. (Cornyn acknowledged
Norm Coleman of Minnesota as "ole number 42;" Coleman's race is in the
courts). Cornyn spoke of the need to regain the trust of the
American people and to broaden the party, particularly reaching out to
Hispanics. Cornyn said the landscape in 2010, in terms of Senate
races, looks "pretty
promising." "To be a national party we have to put blue and
purple
states into play," Cornyn said. Toward the beginning of his
remarks, Cornyn also included a jab at the media. "The elites in
Washington and in the media will continue to portray conservatives as
out of touch, out of fashion, and out of luck," Cornyn said. "But
one thing hasn't changed. They're wrong." |
