Conservatives: Freedom, Not Big Government Is Key >
36th Annual Conservative Political Action Conference, February 26-28, 2009
February 26, 2009--Former Gov. Mike Huckabee described the stimulus package as the "congressional recovery action plan."

"We know that this disaster of a stimulus is nothing but an excuse for the Democrats to expand government spending and power, to give more money to every federal agency.  The Democrats are ruthlessly exploiting the pain and fear of a whole lot of Americans to ignore the normal budget process and impose a long-term, far-left agenda that has nothing whatsoever to do with creating jobs.  Growing government and growing our economy are two very different things."

Huckabee urged CPAC attendees to act on their ideals and principles after the conference.  A bass boat afficiando, he regaled the audience with a tale of a bass boat club where the members park their boats in a warehouse.  Rather than taking them out where they could get dirty or damaged, they sing songs and and watch films.  Huckabee said members of the audience should not to be "warehouse conservatives."  Instead of parking their bass boats in a warehouse, Huckabee said, "We need to get out in the water and stir some stuff up."

In addition to his "Huckabee" show on FOX, Huckabee has a PAC, Huck PAC, working to elect Republicans around the country (quite a few Huck PAC signs were distributed at the conference), and he has even formed a Vertical Politics Institute "dedicated to finding solutions to the many challenges our nation faces today."  At CPAC Huckabee also signed copies of his latest book Do The Right Thing.  [main Huckabee website]
