U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) started out his remarks
lauding DNC Chairman Howard Dean's leadership. Reid noted, "Last
year those numbers were 55-45. This year, because of your invigorating
Democrats all over this country the numbers are now 51-49 in our favor."
Reid explained, "Chairman Dean decided to do something different, and he
got a lot of flak. Everyone thought his main job should be out hustling
money, but he thought his main job should be hustling Democrats in every
state." Reid went on to review some of the Democratic successes in 2006,
talk about some early Democratic accomplishments in the new Congress, and
look ahead to what the Senate will take up in the coming weeks including
"the first real debate since the war began almost four years ago on the
war in Iraq," implementing the 9/11 Commission recommendations, and stem
cell research. |
