Former Gov. Tom Vilsack Makes the Case    Back  |  Main  |  Next
DNC Winter Meeting, Washington, DC, Feb. 1-3, 2007
After the long speech by former Sen. Mike Gravel, former Gov. Tom Vilsack (D-IA) was the final candidate to address the Democrats.  He repeated the "courage to create change" theme he has used since his announcement speech.  Vilsack spoke forcefully on Iraq, stating:
It is time for us to clearly say the war must end and our troops must be brought home now.  [applause].

Let me say that I think Congress has a constitutional responsibility and a moral obligation to do it now.  Not a cap--an end.  Not eventually--immediately.  [applause].

Those who voted for the war, those who voted to continue to support the war, those who voted to continue funding the war can surely vote to stop the war.

Christie Vilsack shares a word with Doug Campbell, a lifelong friend of Tom Vilsack's who grew up with him in Pittsburgh and is now an attorney there.
