Nevada Conservationists for Edwards Announces Members, Chairs

Las Vegas, Nevada – Nevada Conservationists for Edwards today announced a list of 32 members statewide including Scot Rutledge, the group's chair. Rutledge is respected statewide among conservationists and is supporting Edwards because of his commitment to protecting our resources in Nevada and across the nation.

Rutledge announced the list of members from the 10th Annual Tahoe Summit. Tomorrow he will be in Reno for the Clean Energy Conference.

The statewide group supports Edwards' plan to achieve energy independence and stop global warming. Edwards has also expressed his opposition to the Yucca mountain nuclear waste dump. He has opposed the construction of nuclear power plants when we cannot store the waste safely and was the first candidate to call for a ban on coal-fired power plants which lack carbon-capture technology.

"John Edwards has a comprehensive plan to cut pollution and protect the outdoors while creating jobs," Rutledge said. "He has an exceptional understanding of the issues important to Nevada such as energy, land and water. A President John Edwards will mean a stronger and healthier environment in Nevada and in the United States."

"Conservation issues are particularly important in Nevada," Edwards said. "A new energy economy will help our environment and help grow jobs. I am honored to have the support of conservationists in Nevada who are working for these goals."

Edwards has proposed a comprehensive plan to stop global warming and achieve energy independence by creating a new energy economy that stimulates innovation and will create more than 1 million jobs. His plan calls for a cut in greenhouse gases by 80 by 2050. For more information on the plan visit: www.johnedwards.com/issues/energy/new-energy-economy/.

Today, Edwards discussed his long support for biofuels to lead the way towards clean, renewable fuels and announced his plan to increase production of biofuels. He commended Clak County, which has the largest school bus fleet running on B20 biodiesel in the country.

The Nevada Conservationists for Edwards's announcement is one of several upcoming endorsements for John Edwards from local issue groups.
