DES MOINES – Today, the Iowa Democratic Party State Central Committee elected Scott Brennan as the Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party. Brennan, a lawyer and political activist from West Des Moines, IA, will serve as Chair until December 2008.

“I endorse Scott for Iowa Democratic Party Chair today because he brings a fresh perspective to the position,” said Governor-Elect Chet Culver.  “Scott’s involvement in local politics and his impressive law career make him a qualified candidate, and he will continue the great success of Lt. Governor Sally Pederson and the outstanding Democratic wins in Iowa this year.”

“Having worked directly with Scott, I am confident he will make an outstanding Party Chair,” said Senator Tom Harkin.  “Scott has reaffirmed to me his commitment to building an even stronger state party, and he will make it his number one priority to run a fair and honest Iowa Caucus.”

Scott is a native of Indianola and a graduate from Grinnell College.  Scott worked for U.S. Senator Tom Harkin in Washington, DC from 1987 until 1990.  He then returned to Iowa to attend law school at the University of Iowa.  After graduated from there in 1993, began practice with the Davis Brown Law Firm and recently served as the firm's President.

Scott has served a number of terms on the Polk County Democratic Central Committee and served as President of the Twenty-First Century Forum, an organization of young Democrats.  His wife, Elizabeth and their children, Lexi, age 11, and Joe, age 8, live in West Des Moines

“I am proud to be elected as State Party Chair, and I look forward to the challenge of running the Iowa Caucuses.  The Iowa Precinct Caucuses have always been run with honesty and integrity, and I intend to continue this tradition.  In my first action as Party Chair, I proposed a resolution to ensure the highest priority for the Iowa Democratic Party will be to guarantee that the 2008 Caucus is fair and objective, and that all interested parties perceive the 2008 Iowa Democratic Party Caucus to be fair and objective,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Scott Brennan.  “The Iowa Democratic Party encourages all candidates to campaign in Iowa and share their vision for America.”

We, the duly elected members of the Iowa Democratic Party State Central Committee, the governing body of the Iowa Democratic Party, declare on this day, Saturday, December 2, 2006, the following:

Throughout its history the First in the Nation Iowa Democratic Party Precinct Caucus has been held to the highest standards of integrity.  All practices, policies and procedures have been fair and unbiased, and every effort has been made to ensure that the results of the caucus are accurate and true.

The 2008 First in the Nation Iowa Democratic Party Precinct Caucus will uphold the grand tradition of fairness and neutrality in the Democratic Party Presidential nominating process by providing transparent plans and procedures for all interested parties without bias.

The highest priority for the Iowa Democratic Party will be to guarantee that the 2008 Caucus is fair and objective, and that all interested parties perceive the 2008 Iowa Democratic Party Caucus to be fair and objective.

The Iowa Democratic Party State Central Committee encourages all interested Presidential Candidates to campaign in Iowa and share their vision for the future of our Country.  We extend an invitation to all candidates to encourage their supporters in Iowa to participate in the 2008 Precinct Caucus.
