April 8, 2006--As part of a three-day Iowa trip, former Senator John Edwards attended the campaign kick-off for Iowa House candidate Andrew Wenthe at the American Legion Hall in Oelwein.  Wenthe, a sixth generation Iowan, works a family farm near Hawkeye.  He served as a field organizer for Sen. Edwards's Iowa caucus campaign, then as a field organizer in Oklahoma, and finally as Elizabeth Edwards' trip director and scheduler for the final four weeks of the primary campaign.  In the Fall of 2004 he was a field organizer for the Democratic Coordinated Campaign in Black Hawk County.  In his remarks Wenthe noted that he had knocked on over 10,000 doors in northeast Iowa during the course of those campaigns.  "Senator Edwards," Wenthe said in his prepared remarks, "You touched so many of these peoples' lives with your message of optimism and hope, and this message that touched so many Iowans is what has driven me to want to serve and represent these same hardworking folks."
