Human Rights Campaign to Open New Hampshire Office

Office Will Be Headquarters of HRC’s Efforts to Raise Visibility of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues during Presidential Primaries

WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign will host a reception for the grand opening of its new office in Concord, New Hampshire, on Wednesday, September 12th at 4 p.m. The office will serve as the base for HRC’s activities to raise visibility of issues of concern to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community during the presidential primaries. Several members of the New Hampshire State Legislature will attend the event, including Senate President Sylvia Larsen, Sen. Maggie Hassan, Sen. Harold Janeway, Sen. Kathy Sgambati, Rep. Dana Hillard, Rep. Jane Kelley, Rep. James Kennedy, Rep. Jim Ryan, and Rep. Mo Baxley, who also serves as Executive Director of the New Hampshire Freedom to Marry Coalition. Other guests include New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair, Raymond Buckley, and Political Director, Delana Jones; Candidate for U.S. Senate, Katrina Swett; Steve Howard of the Global AIDS Project; Marty Rouse, HRC National Field Director; and David Wilson, HRC Board member.

HRC has played a role in New Hampshire politics in the past. On August 26th, the Concord Monitor published a story about the organization’s 2006 election activities in the state. Author Sarah Liebowitz noted that, with HRC’s help, “Democrats wrested control of the House and Senate from Republicans, giving the party simultaneous control of both legislative chambers and the corner office for the first time since the 19th century. And in their first year in power, Democrats ushered a civil unions bill into law, winning praise from gay-rights groups.”

To attend the event, RSVP to Heather Gibson at (603) 731-0281 or heather.gibson@hrc.org.
