John Lake, an interior designer/feng shui  from Brooklyn, is producer/director of One Thousand Coffins.  The people are all volunteers from the crowd.  Lake said, "People want to make a statement about the waste that's bing done in this war.  We're wasting lives.  We want George Bush, we want the American people to see the cost of the war in Iraq."
Lake has organized the One Thousand Coffins several times including at the Republican National Convention in New York City (972 coffins) and around the Lincoln Memorial (1,117 coffins).  He states,

"I'm optimistic.  Human beings will rise to do what is right.  If they have leadership, if they have inspiration, or if they have any opportunity at all they will rise to show and to speak the truth.  And that's why George Bush has to go--people recognize he's not speaking the truth."
