| February 25, 2006--Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael O. Leavitt, himself a former governor, discussed the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit, an "epidemic" of chronic disease in the United States, and the need to prepare for a possible pandemic. He noted that unlike a natural disaster, which afflicts a specific area, a pandemic would pose a broader challenge. To help local communities prepare, HHS is holding a series of state summits. |
