Obama-Biden Campaign Opens 35 New Offices

After eight years of failed policies, Obama campaign gears up for the final eight weeks

PHILADELPHIA - The Obama-Biden campaign is opening 35 new offices Tuesday, bringing its statewide total to 65 across all parts of Pennsylvania, as the election enters the final Eight Weeks in '08 for the Change We Need.

The grand opening parties will feature an array of local and state elected leaders joining Obama-Biden volunteers and staffers in expanding what is already the largest grassroots movement in Pennsylvania history.

As part of the Eight Weeks in '08, campaign volunteers and staffers are knocking on doors and making thousands of phone calls every day. In the next seven days alone, the campaign is expecting to make 200,000 calls, knock on 100,000 doors and recruit 800 new volunteers.  Thanks to their continuous hard work, Democratic voter registrations continue to surge, with Democrats now outnumbering Republicans in many traditionally GOP-friendly areas like Montgomery County, where the Democratic Party now leads in registration for the first time.

To mark the 8-week home stretch, volunteers will register 8,888 new voters on college campuses alone this week.  Today, there will be an 8-hour long voter registration drive at the Philadelphia Sports Center.  Supporters who come to the office openings tonight will be encouraged to sign up 8 new volunteers.

"Republicans spent much of their convention mocking Barack Obama's experience as a community organizer and not talking about the economy or other issues that matter to the people of Pennsylvania.  And while it's clear that their candidate, John McCain, is more comfortable among Washington lobbyists than with people who want to bring their communities together to enact real change, our campaign continues to register new voters, recruit new volunteers and tap into the widespread hunger out there to change the direction of this country," said Craig Schirmer, the Pennsylvania State Director for the Obama campaign.

During the campaign's Labor Day Week of Action activities last week, while the Republicans were passing the torch from George W. Bush to John McCain, Obama-Biden organizers knocked on 76,070 doors, made 388,160 phone calls and registered 22,523 new voters.
