New American Independent Party

The New American Independent Party was founded in 2004 in Wayne, Pennsylvania.  According to its website, it was born out of the "pressing and growing threats facing our nation and the failure of our elected officials to address them."  National chairman is Michael Thompson who ran for Pennsylvania state representative in Delaware County in 2006.  NAIP held its presidential primary from Feb.6-29, 2008.  In order to vote in the primary an individual had to be a legal U.S. citizen, be registered to vote, and submit a New American Independent Party membership form by midnight Feb. 1, 2008.

Candidates for the party's presidential nomination were: Jon Greenspon of Hesperia, CA; Richard H. Clark; Frank McEnulty of Long Beach, CA; Ron Lowhorn of New Castle, IN; Jerry Odom of Westchester, OH; and Frank Zilaitis of  Melbourne, FL (these were all organized enough to put up websites).  Others included Mark Graham; Donald Red Bear Watkins; Gary Ribovic; Michael Gamble; Mike Cox; John Darcy III.  Additionally there was the Draft Campaign for Lou Dobbs.

 Frank McEnulty was determined to be the winner on March 11 [March 12 press release].  Additionally the Reform Party selected him as its vice presidential nominee at its meeting July 18-19 in Dallas, TX.

On October 20, 2007, on the third ballot at its national convention in St. Louis, the Socialist Party USA selected Brian P. Moore, a 64-year old peace activist from Spring Hill, Florida as its presidential nominee.  The vice presidential candidate is Stewart Alexander of Murietta, California, who is also a member of the Peace & Freedom Party.
 

Brian P. Moore of Spring Hill (Hernando County), FL -  Independent candidate for U.S. Senate in Florida in 2006.  Candidate for Congress in Florida's 5th CD.  Organized the Nature Coast Coalition for Peace & Justice in 2002.  Ran for local office in Washington, DC several times in the 1980s and 1990s.  Almost 20 years in the HMO/managed care industry as an executive director, project administrator, and consultant.  M.P.A. from Arizona State University.  Served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Panama and Peru starting in 1969.  Left the seminary in 1967.  Obtained his bachelor's degree and studied Catholic theology for five years in the Franciscan Missions of California.

Socialist Workers Party

The Socialist Workers Party announced its presidential ticket and other candidates in the Jan. 14, 2008 issue of the Militant.  Róger Calero from the Bronx, NY is writer for the Militant and was also the party's presidential nominee in 2004.  As he was born in Nicaragua, Calero is constitutionally ineligible to serve as president.  Alyson Kennedy of Newark, NJ, who has worked in coal mines and as a garment worker, is the SWP candidate for vice president.

Gloria La Riva of CA -  An independent candidate for U.S. vice president from 1984 to 2000.  Peace & Freedom Party candidate for governor of California in 1994 and 1998.  Attended Brandeis University.  Born in Albuquerque, NM.
