June 19, 2005 -- Sen. Joe Biden takes questions
after an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation." Eschewing the coy
statements typical of potential presidential candidates at this early
stage, Biden said on the program that he plans
to run for the Democratic nomination in 2008. "If in fact I think
I
have a clear shot at winning the nomination by this November or
December, then I'm going to seek the nomination," Biden said. Iraq was a major subject of discussion on the program. Biden, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said there is a "disconnect" between the situation on the ground in Iraq and the administration's pronouncements. Biden recently returned from his fifth trip to Iraq and is scheduled to deliver a speech Tuesday at the Brookings Institute on "U.S. Policy in Iraq: Rhetoric vs. Reality." |
After answering reporters'
questions Biden took time to sign a few autographs. |
