Oct. 25, 2005--Gov. Tom Vilsack hosted a Democratic Leadership Council
forum on "Progressive Solutions to the National Budget Crisis." Reflecting
on meetings he has had with people who have family members serving in Iraq,
Vilsack said he believes Americans share a willingness to make some sacrifices
and our national leadership should speak to that. "What sacrifices
have I been asked to make for this country recently," he asked. Vilsack
also said it is "morally wrong" to achieve Katrina relief through Medicaid
cuts. "I think it's incumbent upon Democrats in particular not just
simply to criticize what is being proposed but also to lay out a more progressive
and appropriate approach that supports the values of America and Americans,"
Vilsack stated. Vilsack became chair of the DLC on July 15, 2005. |
