March 28, 2006--Dr. Rick Scarborough, president of Vision America (headquartered in Lufkin, TX), organized "The War On Christians" conference "to contribute to a genuine revival of the Christian faith in America and to advance a proper understanding of the role of the church in American life."  About three hundred people attended.  In an introductory letter to attendees, Scarborough wrote, "Every day brings new evidence that Christianity, worldwide, is under assault.  This conference will not only document that assault, but will also provide tools and solutions for counteracting that assault..."  A straw poll of attendees on the 2008 presidential race put Sen. Santorum and Gov. Huckabee tied for first, Sen. Brownback second, Sen. Allen and Condi Rice tied for third, and Rep. Tancredo fourth.  Brownback had been scheduled to speak but did not make it due to votes in the Senate.  In a related event, on March 29 conservative Christian leaders were scheduled to rally on Capitol Hill to launch a ten point manifesto "The Values Voters' Contract with Congress."  [more]
