April 4, 2006-- Speaking to the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's Legislative Conference Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) suggested that there are three approaches to the millions of illegal immigrants living in the United States: the status quo, send everybody back, or let them earn citizenship.  McCain said his bill does not provide amnesty.  "We forgive no one," he said.  Rather, he said, earned citizenship is the best solution.  McCain emphasized the humanitarian aspect of the border situation, reading from an article that described in graphic terms what happens to those who have died in the desert while attempting the crossing from Mexico into the United States.   (back)
