Beltway Happenings
June 20, 2006--Sen. George Allen (R-VA) spoke at Edison Electric Institute's Annual Convention/Expo.  He recalled his days as governor when Virginia's cheap and reliable power was essential to recruiting tech companies.  In the Senate Allen sits on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and he has formed a Competitiveness Caucus.  Allen called for drilling in ANWR, which he recalled visiting and said is "like the dark side of the moon" in the winter.   He said caribou would not be harmed; on the contrary the Alaska pipeline had proven to make "'em more amorous."  Allen also called for drilling in Lease 181 in the Gulf of Mexico, increasing and streamlining refining capacity, and utilizing America's vast coal resources.
