Daschle stated that America does not have the best health care system and cited a number of statistics to back that claim.  At the same time he said that the United States should not attempt to adopt another country's health care system.  "We need an American system" he stated, a public-private system.  Asked about recent reforms adopted in Massachusetts, Daschle said the Massachusetts approach "has great merit" because it shares responsibility.  Daschle also emphasized wellness programs as a starting point.
