July 16, 2006--In an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," Sen. Joe
Biden, who recently made his seventh visit to Iraq, stated, "I don't believe
the President has a Middle East policy." Asked about Iraq Biden stated,
"No, we're not winning the war because we do not have a political solution
to offer." He outlined three elements of a political solution: encourage
Sunnis to buy into the process by giving them a share of the oil; disarm
the militia; and revive the civilian agencies and bureaucracy. On
North Korea Biden said the country's leaders act with "an 8th grade mentality;"
and he said the United States should hold high-level one-on-one talks,
make our position very clear and make clear to the leaders that if they
do anything untoward"we will annihilate you." Former Speaker Newt
Gingrich appeared
jointly with Biden on the program. |
