Beltway Happenings
January 7, 2007--Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) emerges after an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," during which he and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) discussed the situation in Iraq.  President Bush is set to announce a new strategy on Iraq on Wednesday.  Biden said a surge of troops into Baghdad will "be a tragic mistake."  He also stated, "I'm going to be holding extensive hearings as chairman, incoming chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee for the next four weeks, bringing in experts from every, every perspective to talk about what options are remaining in Iraq."

Biden, who has said numerous times he will run for president, added some detail about his presidential plans.  "I'm filing exploratory committee before the month is out," he said.  "I'm going to be Joe Biden, and I’m going to try to be the best Biden I can be.  If I can, I got a shot.  If I can't, I lose."
