January 24, 2007--"At the very moment we surge into Baghdad, we're
retreating from our cities," Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) told mayors at The United
States Conference of Mayors' 75th Winter Meeting. Speaking about
President Bush's State of the Union Address Biden said, " The silence was
deafening, absolutely deafening" when Bush spoke on Iraq. Biden declared,
"Mr. President, stop. Stop the escalation. Listen." Biden
said the mayors are caught in a "perfect storm" brought on by an administration
driven by an ideological rationale of devolution of government, "a tax
policy that drains your capacity," and "a war of choice, not of necessity."
Sens. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), Chris Dodd (D-CT)
and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) were
among many other speakers who addressed the meeting. (main
