January 26, 2007--Former Gov. George E. Pataki delivered a major policy
speech on "A Way Forward in Iraq" to students and faculty at Georgetown
University's Center for Peace and Security Studies. Pataki said the
Maliki government should move beyond promises and take a set of specific
actions as a pre-condition to additional American troops. More broadly,
Pataki eschewed use of the phrase "war on terror," preferring instead to
speak of a "global insurgency." In a statement provided by Pataki's
21st Century Freedom PAC Gen. Jay Garner (Ret.) said Pataki's plan "has
the potential to bridge the gap between Congress and the White House."
Pataki is mentioned as a potential presidential candidate, but he has been
largely out of the news since he finished his tenure as governor on January
