| July 10, 2007--New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, co-chair of Mayors
Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), led a Capitol Hill rally against the Tiahrt
Amendment. According to a MAIG press release, the amendment would
restrict "the access of cities and law enforcement to gun trace data, an
essential crime fighting tool." Removal of the amendment from the
Department of Justice appropriations bill was MAIG's "top legislative priority."
From its start at a meeting at Gracie Mansion in New York City in April
2006 the group has grown to more than 225 mayors. |
