Beltway Happenings   ...
July 30, 2007--Former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-TN), still testing the waters, arrives for a closed fundraiser at the J.W. Marriott Pensylvania Avenue.  Several hundred people attended.  Among those sighted were Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), conservative leader Gary Bauer, who had good words for Thompson while stopping short of an endorsement, Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX), and David Bossie, president of Citizens United.

Thompson's delay in getting into the race is causing concern among some of his grassroots supporters, and his committee, Friends of Fred Thompson, has recently endured a shake-up and several departures.  It is due to file its first financial report with the IRS tomorrow.
