How the party leaders saw it:

Dean: A Democratic President Will Work to Unite Americans

Washington, DC - Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement following tonight’s first DNC-sanctioned debate hosted by CNN and YouTube and held at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina:

“This historic, groundbreaking debate showed why we must elect a Democratic President in 2008 to change the direction of our country.  Our Democratic candidates answered the American people’s questions with candor and strength. Americans are tired of the failed policies of Bush Republicans and are looking for new leadership.  This first of six DNC sanctioned debates empowered ordinary Americans to be part of a two-way campaign, to ask the candidates questions and get answers.  We saw again tonight the clear difference between the parties.  All eight Democrats want to get us out of Iraq and have a plan to do it while the Republicans offer more of the same failed Bush agenda.”

RNC CHAIRMAN ROBERT M. “MIKE” DUNCAN   RESPONDS TO THE CNN YOUTUBE DEBATE

CHARLESTON, SC – Republican National Committee Chairman Robert M. “Mike” Duncan released the following statement after tonight's Democrat Presidential debate in South Carolina:

“The Democrats have not won a presidential election in South Carolina in over 30 years and given the liberal pandering we just saw it doesn’t look like that streak is in jeopardy in 2008.

“Despite voting for the Iraq War, we heard candidates say we should cut off funding for the troops fighting it.  We heard about agendas based on higher taxes and more government spending.

“It’s ironic that on a day celebrating technology’s future role in politics all we heard from Democrat Presidential Candidates was dated liberal rhetoric.”
