Obama, Clinton, Edwards, Richardson, Kucinich, Biden, Dodd, Gravel Answer Questions from MoveOn Members

Final Health Care Town Hall Planned for the Fall

On Saturday, July 7 MoveOn members across the country will participate in the organization's second Virtual Town Hall meeting with presidential candidates.  At the events, members will compare the candidates' plans on global warming.

Members will gather at house "Parties for the Planet," where they will watch the presidential candidates discuss, for the first time, their plans for addressing the climate crisis. Over 1,300 events will take place.

Saturday evening's event is set to coincide with a series of Live Earth concerts sponsored by former Vice President Al Gore.  Partygoers will watch the concert live on TV after viewing the presidential candidates answer questions about global warming posted by MoveOn members on YouTube.

"People who participate in MoveOn's Virtual Town Hall on climate are part of the solution to a crisis that affects us all," said former Vice President Al Gore.

"This is the first time ever voters can compare the presidential candidates' proposals, side-by-side, for solving the climate crisis," said Eli Pariser, Executive Director of MoveOn.org Political Action.  "The public is paying attention to the climate crisis as never before, and we will demand that our next president have a credible plan for bold action on the issue," concluded Pariser.

Starting Sunday July 8th, MoveOn members will vote for the candidate they believe has the best plan. The results of the vote will be released on Wednesday, July 11th, 2007.

The first Virtual Town Hall was held in April and focused on Iraq. A third Virtual Town Hall will take place this fall on health care.  MoveOn's membership voted to make these three issues the organization's top priorities. Votes taken after the Virtual Town Halls do not represent an endorsement.

In recent weeks, MoveOn gained 250,000 new members from a petition asking Congress to move toward a clean energy future. The "Party for the Planet" is being co-sponsored by the Campaign for America's Future, the League of Conservation Voters, and the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights.

In the 2006 midterm elections MoveOn members contributed $27 million, made 7 million get-out-the-vote phone calls, organized 7,500 house parties and held 6,000 in-district campaign events. Overall, MoveOn's membership grew by 450,000.
