Iraq Vets Call on Obama to Recognize Surge Success; Launch Million-Dollar Ad Buy in Denver

(Denver, CO) — Vets for Freedom (VFF) today released a new television advertisement as part of its grassroots and media effort to educate the American public about the success of the surge in Iraq. The ad—“I am the Surge”—hits airwaves tomorrow and will run in the Denver media market this week, Minneapolis next week, and in Ohio, Michigan, Virginia, and Colorado into mid-September. VFF will spend approximately $1.1 million to run the ad for four weeks.

The thirty-second spot features three Iraq war veterans—all of which were part of the Surge—who can personally attest to success in Iraq; all three asking Senator Obama—point blank—to support their success, and the success of all troops, by supporting the bi-partisan resolution introduced by Senators Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham recognizing the success of the Surge and expressing gratitude to the men and women who made it possible as soon as the Senate returns from its five week vacation. (Senate Resolution 636, introduced July 31, 2008).

The full television ad, and supporting documentation, can be viewed at www.VetsforFreedom.org

Vets for Freedom will not stand by and let the incredible progress of our troops go unnoticed by the American public and lawmakers from either side of the aisle,” said Vets for Freedom Chairman Pete Hegseth, who returned two weeks ago from another trip to Iraq. “It is essential that our top legislators—regardless of party—understand the importance of victory in Iraq, the consequences of defeat, and the success of the surge. Senator Obama has said that he would still oppose the Surge if given another opportunity, and has pointed to every outside factor—but the Surge—to explain improvements in Iraq. We hope he will listen to the veterans who have served there and support this important resolution for the sake of the troops.”

Both Pete Hegseth and VFF Vice-Chairman David Bellavia recently returned from Iraq and are in Denver, CO and available for interviews.
