Sec. Daniels Reminds Arkansas's Registered Voters of Upcoming Early Voting Period
Starting Monday, Oct. 20, registered voters may cast early ballots

LITTLE ROCK, AR—Secretary of State Charlie Daniels today reminded the state’s registered voters of the early voting period, which starts Monday, October 20, for the November 4 General Election and Nonpartisan Judicial Runoff.

Early voting will be available from Monday, October 20 - Monday, November 3 statewide from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, and ending at 5:00 pm on the Monday before the election. Each county will provide at least one early voting location (usually the county courthouse), and some will offer additional satellite locations. Voters are encouraged to contact their local county clerk to determine early voting locations and the hours of operation for any satellite locations.

“I encourage all of the state’s registered voters to find a convenient time to vote early and avoid waiting in line on November 4,” Daniels said. “There are really fourteen election days including early voting, and there’s no reason to wait until the last one to have your voice heard in this important election.”

Additional Voting Reminders:

REGISTRATION
New voters must have submitted an Arkansas Voter Registration Application by the October 6, 2008 deadline to participate in this election. Voter registration information can be verified online at www.VoteNaturally.org. If any information is out of date or incorrect, voters need to notify their county clerk’s office.

In 2007, the state legislature passed a law allowing for the county-to-county transfer of voter registrations up to four days before the election. The deadline for transferring one’s voter registration for this election is October 31, 2008.

BALLOT ISSUES
In 2007, the legislature referred three proposed ballot issues to the people to be voted on in the upcoming election. Additionally, Secretary Daniels has certified petitions for two other ballot issues. A listing of the ballot titles and popular names for the five ballot issues and the candidates that will be appearing on the statewide ballot can be found at www.VoteNaturally.org.

ABSENTEE VOTING
Voters who will be unavoidably absent from the polls on Election Day may request absentee ballots from their county clerks. The clerk must receive the mailed absentee ballot request application by October 28, 2008. Voters must mail back their completed ballot by Election Day.

AT THE POLLS VOTING
The General Election and Nonpartisan Judicial Runoff is Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Polls are open statewide from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Arkansans can find their voter registration status, Election Day polling location, and more information on Arkansas’s voting process by visiting www.VoteNaturally.org or contacting the Arkansas Secretary of State Elections Division at (800) 482-1127.
