March 2, 2007--There was much anticipation surrounding
former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's appearance at CPAC.
George Will provided a glowing introduction, stating that Giuliani had
"produced the eight most consecutive years of successful conservative
governance in
the 20th century in America." In his speech Giuliani mentioned
Ronald Reagan 15 times. "I think the most important lesson that I
learned from Ronald Reagan was the importance of optimistic
leadership," Giuliani said. He also cited Reagan's saying that,
"My 80 percent ally is not my 20 percent enemy." Giuliani said:
"What he meant by
that
is, we don't all see eye to eye on everything. You and I have a lot of
common beliefs that are the same, and we have some that are
different... We don't all agree on everything. I don't agree
with myself on everything. "And the point of a presidential election is to figure out who do you believe the most and what do you think are the most important things for this country at a particular time." |
