Elected Governor in 2002 and re-elected in 2006. Is also part owner
(in a blind trust) of Fischer, Rounds & Associates Inc., an insurance
and real estate agency. Elected to the state Senate representing
District 24 (Pierre and the surrounding areas) in 1990 and re-elected in
'92, '94, '96 and '98; term-limited in 2000. Served as Senate Majority
Leader for six years. B.S. in political science from South Dakota
State University in Brookings. Born in Huron, SD; lifelong resident
of Pierre.
