Filing for the 2008 New Hampshire Presidential Primary

Filing for the 2008 New Hamsphire Primary The date of the primary was not yet known, but 44 presidential candidates filed to appear on the New Hampshire Primary Election Ballot during the three-week filing period from Oct. 15 to Nov. 2, 2007. Filing is a good opportunity for candidates to get some free media attention. Major candidates typically will rally or march with supporters in conjunction with the filing. In Secretary of State Bill Garner's office on the second floor of the State House, the candidate fills in the forms at a ceremonial desk while photographers and reporters crowd around. Even fringe candidates may attract a few reporters, and that may be the most attention they get. This year 26 candidates filed in person, including all the major candidates except Duncan Hunter, one filed via representative, and 17 filed via mail. New Hampshire voters will choose from among 23 Democratic and 21 Republican presidential candidates. Additionally three vice presidential candidates filed. ema 11/07
