April 4, 2006--Juan Jose Gutierrez, national coordinator of Latino Movement USA, speaks at a press conference to announce the "The Great American Boycott 2006," to be held on May 1, 2006. According to the www.AmnestyYes.org website, this "will be a nationwide day without an immigrant when immigrants and their supporters stay home from work and school and businesses are closed. We will demand amnesty and full rights for all immigrants." Gutierrez has worked on the immigration issue for many years; he served as executive director of One Stop Immigration in the late 1990s and more recently was one of the leaders of the large March 25 demonstration in Los Angeles.
