Beltway Happenings
March 12, 2007--Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) became the first U.S. Senator to endorse former Mayor Rudy Giuliani for president in 2008.  Vitter cited Guiliani's leadership in a time of war and terrorist threat, his record as a conservative reformer as mayor, and his conviction that Giuliani would appoint the best federal judges (statement).  The endorsement is seen as significant given Vitter's social conservative record.  Giuliani also has endorsements from 11 U.S. House members.
Ted Olsen, chair of the Giuliani exploratory committee's Justice Advisory Committee (gray suit), and Bill Simon, Giuliani's director of policy (with glasses), also spoke, and Giuilani's wife Judith appeared as well.
